On July, 10, 2016, a reception of a six-member official delegation from the Russian city of Rostov took place during the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, in Volos (Greece). During the reception His Eminence Metropolitan Ignatius of Demetrias and Almyros, welcomed the deputy Mayor of Rostov Mr. Sergey Kuznetsov, the Vice Rector of the Ecclesiastical Seminar of Rostov Fr. Grigory Gridnev, and four prominent members of the municipality of Rostov, while he warmly spoke about their visit to the city of Volos, announced among other things the signing of a protocol of cooperation between the Ecclesiastical Seminar of Rostov (Don) and the Volos Academy for Theological Studies.
After the end of the Divine Liturgy and in a very cordial atmosphere, the protocol of cooperation between the Ecclesiastical Seminary of Rostov (Don) and the Volos Academy for Theological Volos Studies was signed, followed by a creative discussion on various future prospects of cooperation between the two bodies at both an academic and research level, as well as in relation to joint publication projects.
The visit of the representatives of the Russian city and the signing of the above agreement was realized by the initiative and official proposal on the Russian side, especially by the rector of the Ecclesiastical Seminar Fr. Timothy Fetisov to the Director of the Volos Academy for Theological Studies Dr. Pantelis Kalaitzidis, in the context of a three-day visit to our city planned for the celebratory events of the sixty years of the twinning between the cities of Volos and Rostov.
The Ecclesiastical Seminary of Rostov (Don) is a university-level Seminary, which graduates future priests. By this gesture, it was clearly expressed by the Rector of the Rostov Seminar Fr. Timothey Fetishov, the interest towards a substantial and deep cooperation that would bring out the best results in the education of the students of the School as well as in the broadening of the horizons of the School professors.
